Wild Didcot photo competition winners

Following on from the previous post regarding the shortlisted entries for the Wild Didcot photo competition we have now chosen the winners!

Winner of the over 18 category

Whilst we had a great number of fantastic entries (including many that didn’t make the shortlist) the judges had a clear favourite for the overall winner.

We are delighted to announce that Raymond, who took the photo of the bee and blossom, won this category. The cherry blossom trees are a wonderful sight in Didcot each spring and this image perfectly captured why. The judges loved the light filtering through the petals, the spring like colours as well as the bee being captured at just the right time!

Under 18 category

An even harder decision to make. So hard that we enlisted the help of the head of photography from a local school (thank you!). She helped us make the final choice, which is Jake’s photo of a kestrel. Once again we loved the composition and use of negative space. The restful gaze  of the bird and muted colour palette also worked beautifully.

We look forward to presenting these winners with their prizes at the Wild Didcot cafe on Saturday 13 May. We’ll be displaying both the winners and shortlisted photos so do pop along to the Civic Hall to see these and other wildlife activities.
