A summer of Play2Give events

A few weeks back I featured Andy Baker, founder of Play2Give, on the In Didcot blog.

Play2Give raises money for local charities through a combination of events and fundraising initiatives. I’ve already featured  a couple of Play2Give events on my monthly round ups but there are so many events coming up that I thought I’d dedicate a blog post. So what else is planned for the summer?

I’ve split the events into those which Play2Give are primarily or jointly organising, and those featured in the ‘Also in’ section which are run by other organisations.

June: Didcot’s Got Talent final!

It’s time to discover the winner of the Didcot’s Got Talent competition. Will it be a magician? Bell ringer? Dancing dog?  Rapper? Find out in the final!

Organised by Play2Give in conjunction with Angels Performing Arts the show takes place in Cornerstone on Saturday 29 June. Tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 for children or concessions.  There will also be a fundraising raffle and collection for local charities. Programmes on sale too.  Only limited tickets remain so get yours before they sell out!

Also in June: Bands on the Boundary

Whilst Andy is busy at the talent show final some of the Play2Give superheroes are attending Bands on the Boundary festival at Boundary Park on Saturday 29 June. Listen to local bands for free, enjoy inflatables and street food, find out more about Play2Give and have a go on their tombola.

July: Golf

Do you play golf? If so, you might like to enter a Charity Golf Day. It’s on Saturday 20 July at The Springs Golf Club. Tickets are £59.95 each and include refreshments, a goody bag, prizes and an 18 hole competition. Limited to 40 places, tickets available from Eventbrite.

Also in July: Didcot 5 and Fun Run.

The superheroes are out again, with some taking part in the Didcot five mile or two mile fun run on  Sunday 7 July. They’ll be raising money for Be Free Young Carers and Earth Trust.

Also in July: cake sale at Didcot Parkway

If you prefer cakes to running head to Didcot railway station instead. They’ve organised a cake sale from 9am on Saturday 27 July to raise funds for the Play2Give charities.

August: Didcot summer fayre

Play2Give are joining forces with Sustainable Didcot to run Didcot’s summer fayre for a second year running.

The fayre takes place in Edmunds Park from 12 pm on Saturday 3 August. Expect craft stalls, fairground rides, charity raffles and performances by local groups. From 5-11 pm there’s a festival vibe provided by a variety of bands. Free entry (just a donation to park) but lots of ways to spend money, all whilst raising money for charity.

Also in August: Emergency service and family fun day

Another free event at Boundary Park, this time on  Saturday 31 August. You can meet the 999 and Armed Forces services, and there’ll be a Play2Give stall in amongst a whole host of family activities.

September: Play2Give ball

If you enjoy dressing up in your glad rags why not wear them to the ball? Held on Saturday 28 September at Didcot  Civic Hall this Black Tie Ball includes a three course meal and evening entertainment. And, as always, it’s all for a good cause. Raising money for Headway Oxfordshire and Ronald McDonald House at Oxford Children’s Hospital. Tickets are £35 each, available here or by emailing Andy on play2give@hotmail.com.

So there you have it. A summer of fundraising events to add to your diaries. For full details pop over to the Play2Give website.
