Hope you all had a great Easter break! There are some great events and things do in and around Didcot in May 2022.
1. Wild Didcot cafe
Come along to the first Wild Didcot cafe (hosted by Sustainable Didcot) to find out more about how to support wildlife locally, from hedgehog box making to advice from organisations such as the RSPB. They’ll also be launching the Didcot garden for wildlife charter. Takes place at Didcot Civic Hall from 10am-2.30pm on Saturday 14 May. Tickets are free, but please book in advance.
2. Plant sale and mini spring fair
Pop along to buy your plants and seedlings at St Peter’s Church, Newlands Avenue from 10.30am-1pm on Saturday 7 May. There will also be a few extra stalls, from chocolate tombola to cakes.
3. Didcot Concert Orchestra
Didcot’s concert orchestra is returning to Cornerstone at 4pm Sunday 22 May, with a selection of Russian themed pieces. Tickets, from Cornerstone, are £15 for adults , £9 for under 16s. Please note, this programme was planned several years in advance and the view of the DCO is that works by deceased Russian composers are part of European culture to be celebrated. That said, the concert programme will start with the Ukrainian national anthem to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
4. Hagbourne Fun Run
Back after a 2 year absence, the 4.5 mile charity fun run/walk takes place on trails around Hagbourne and Blewbury at 11am on Monday 2 May. Entry costs £8 for adult runners, £2 for under-16s, enter in advance here.
5. Didcot Railway Centre transport rally
Head to Didcot Railway Centre on Sunday 22 May between 10am-4pm to see steam and diesel trains. There will also be a free static display of vehicles at Ladygrove Park and vintage buses departing Didcot Railway Station to local villages. More details here.
6. Family night safari
Listen to bats and spot newts and frogs at the family night safari at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre. Book your place here for the event, which takes place on Friday 27 May from 8.30-10.30pm.
7. First Class pooch dog show
There are five different categories for your pooch to enter at the Style Acre Tea Room dog show in Blewbury. It’s on Saturday 21 May, between 12 noon and 3pm. Find more details and enter here.
8. Forty Elephant Gang
It’s not apparent from the title but this is a rousing band who blend folk, Americana and American blues. They’re playing at Harwell village hall on Friday 20 May. Tickets are £8 and available here.
9. Oxfordshire Artweeks
Several local artists are exhibiting their works as part of the county wide artweeks initiative. These include Charlie Davies and Denny Webb at Cornerstone, Linda Benton at Hagbourne Village Hall and Valentina Gonzalez at her home in Cornflower Close. Use the artweeks website to check opening days and times.
10. Blewbury beer festival
Will be held at Blewbury Village Hall from midday on Saturday 14 May. There will be bands, singers, football (FA Cup final day) and beer. Further details to be announced nearer the time.
