Little free library in Didcot

A few weeks ago Sebastiana contacted me to let me know about the little free library she has set up outside her house in Didcot.

I’m a huge reader, and get a lot of my books from the local charity shops. They’re temporarily closed so this is a great idea for anyone who is running out of reading material.

Sebastiana’s library is in a weatherproof bookcase in her front garden at 37 Churchill Road, Didcot, OX11 7BU. It’s inspired by a library she saw in a village in Surrey; she thought it would be great for Didcot to have something similar.

The library is free. The basic premise is that you donate a book/pick up a new book. However, if you don’t have one to donate I’m sure it would be fine to borrow one and bring it back. On the other hand, if you’ve got a lot of books to donate (or otherwise want to get in contact) do email Sebastiana at freelibrarydidcot@yahoo.com.

I popped to the library whilst on one of my exercise walks. I was pleased to see quite a variety of genres and authors; there’s probably a book for you! Most are for adults but there was a small selection for children. There were also a couple of DVDs available.

It’s a lovely idea and well worth supporting. Do pop and pick up some new reading material!

  1. Just a note to say that Didcot Library is NOT closed. The staff do an excellent job using online click and collect for up to six books. In fact, I’ve found they select better choices than l do! Sign on the
Library, tap on Click and Collect, then follow the instructions. They email us when the books are ready to collect, usually the day after booking. It’s a great service.

  2. Didcot library is partially open – you can pick up reservations (made online or in the app), and return books via the drop box, but you can’t browse.

  3. Interesting as there is a little one in East Hagbourne and I had been toying with the idea of one where I am in Green Close, thank you, i am inspired and mayt do so in the near future. Will let you know if/when I do.

  4. Just been to 37 Churchill Close, no library box there, but found it at 37 Churchill ROAD. (Took a book, will put a couple of my own in tomorrow.)
