Have you visited the East Hagbourne scarecrow trail yet? If not, you’ve got until Sunday 9 June to visit so don’t delay! There are some fantastic scarecrows on display; are any of these your favourite?
East Hagbourne scarecrow trail

I was surprised to discover that this is the 15th year of the trail. This year’s scarecrow creators have had plenty of experience creating them, reflected in the high quality of the trail.

The theme is characters from science fiction and fantasy. You can pick up a trail map from the village community shop or Fleur de Lys pub. They cost £1 and profits go to The Friends of St Anne’s Hospital in Tanzania. The map details 35 scarecrows, ranging from E.T. to the Incredible Hulk.

There are loads of ingenious ideas and materials on display. A lion has a mane of pampas grass; a tin man wears silver painted Crocs whilst the Dalek below is decorated with empty Nespresso coffee pods!

The trail is a couple of miles along, with some spread out at either end of the village, so it’s best to dedicate an afternoon. If you visit on Sunday there’s the added attraction of afternoon teas between 3-5pm at St Andrews Church.

Special mention must go to the residents of Fieldside who have created a set of scarecrows and props based on the Wizard of Oz. All of the houses host a different character from the book, it was very popular when we visited!

After you’ve finished the trail vote for your favourite scarecrow by Wednesday 12 June. The winner will be announced at St Andrew’s Church Fete on Saturday 15 June.

This Martian is one of my favourites. However my voting slip is still at home as I cannot make a final decision. There are so many great options – which one would you choose?
