Our lives have changed immensely since my last post just a week ago. My regular blog schedule is out of the window so I’ll refocus my blogs on signposting help, advice and ideas to see us all through the Covid-19 epidemic. (And I hope the daffodil picture cheers you up!)
Whilst some people are busy stockpiling there are many who wish to help those who are self isolating, elderly or vulnerable. The list below details some opportunities; if you know of any others please contact me.
Important: First and foremost, and it is awful to say this, but people are taking advantage of the situation to defraud and scam people. This alert from Thames Valley Police provides information on how to protect yourself.
SOFEA Community Larder
In ‘peacetime’ SOFEA offer a community larder scheme, via the Marlborough Club, which enables individuals and families to access affordable and nutritious food. Individuals usually pay a small monthly fee (£8.66) for access to 20 items of food each week.
In light of the Covid-19 epidemic they have temporarily suspended the monthly membership fee in order to provide free food to as many people as possible, via a box scheme. As well as pick ups from the Marlborough Club SOFEA will be delivering hundreds of tonnes of packets and tins, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables to those who find themselves in need.
SOFEA need healthy, symptom-free people to volunteer to help with what will be a massive logistical exercise.
To find out more about how you can volunteer, please see the SOFEA Community Larder Facebook page, visit their website , email email@example.com or ring 01235 510774.
Secret Santa 365
Courtney Hughes from Secret Santa is creating boxes of food and essentials to deliver to local residents in sheltered housing.
Can you help Courtney by providing supplies for the boxes? She is particularly looking for soup, tea, coffee, toilet rolls, tinned items, cakes and biscuits. There is a full list available of the Secret Santa 365 Facebook page. There are no public donation boxes, please contact Courtney to arrange delivery.
