This is a great bike ride from Didcot if you live on the Ladygrove estate as it’s primarily car free or on relatively quiet roads. It’s also easy to adapt; cycle the whole route or turn back at Wittenham or Dorchester if you prefer.
The Ridgeway is Britain’s oldest road, previously used by Iron Age traders, invading Viking armies and livestock drovers. Nowadays it’s a popular long distance walking trail. With its closest point just a few miles from Didcot it also offers great off road cycling potential.
We cycled from Didcot to Court Hill cafe, near Wantage. Serious cyclists, apologies! Ours was a leisurely ride with photo and cafe stops. And a spot of walking. Read on to follow our route.
Ask any Didcot’ite their favourite local walk and a large percentage will opt for Wittenham Clumps. This circular route passes by (or over) the Clumps, across the Thames into Dorchester and back alongside the river. It’s the perfect choice for a Sunday afternoon walk.
This walk, between Didcot and Cholsey, takes you through the downland village of Blewbury, up over an Iron Age hillfort and past a poet’s farmhouse.
