Lockdown walks in Didcot: Civic Hall circular

Lydalls

Walking has been a saviour in these lockdown times. Despite it being the middle of winter our opportunity to get out for daily exercise has never been more welcome. However, you’ve probably discovered that all-weather routes, such as the railway embankment, are incredibly busy and countryside footpaths are very muddy!

Walks near Didcot: Unhill Wood circular, near Moulsford

Footpath towards Starveall Farm

This is one of my favourite local walks on the Downs. The start point is only a 10 minute drive from Didcot but once away from the road you soon feel miles from anywhere.

Cake! At the Dorchester Abbey tearoom

Blackcurrant and lemon stripe cake, Dorchester Abbey tearoom

Last weekend I made my first visit of the year to Dorchester Abbey tearoom. Situated in the abbey grounds the small tearoom offers a varied selection of cakes, all baked by local volunteers. Of course, it’s not the only attraction in Dorchester-on-Thames so why not visit for the afternoon, eat cake and explore the village.

A wander around Blewbury

Nottingham Fee, Blewbury

We often visit Blewbury, although this is usually to eat lunch at the Style Acre tea room. This week I decided to explore the village itself. What did I discover?

Walks near Didcot: a trail of redundant churches, Wallingford

Church of St John the Baptist, Mongewell

I’ve lived in this area most of my life but only discovered two of these churches for the first time last week. If, like me, you enjoy exploring ruins then this walk is perfect for you!

Cycle rides around Didcot: Chilton, the Ridgeway and Sustrans route 544

This is a great circular ride for cyclists who are happy with a couple of steeper (up and down) sections. It’s a good choice for older children and teenagers who are confident cycling on quiet roads.
